Moving & Packing Tips

Moving is no small task, it takes planning and preparation.  Our goal is to help make your move stress-free from start to finish. To help you through this process, your preparation time should start about 8 weeks before you move.

Start investigating moving companies, schools, doctors, banks, etc. depending on need due to new location.
Download our moving / packing checklists and keep track of progress, estimates, etc.

Go through every room in your house and determine what you want to keep and what you can get rid of.
Get at least 3 estimates in writing from different companies.
Schedule your move.
Once you’ve done an assessment of what you will be keeping and your estimates are complete, you’ll have a better idea of the amount of supplies you may need.
Change address and have records transferred to new school district.
Mail to post office about 4 weeks in advance, as well as update all accounts, via phone and online.
Determine whether or not you will be packing yourself or professionally.  If professionally, schedule your packing.  If you plan to pack yourself, start packing items that aren’t frequently used are or stored in the attic or basement.  Room by room is usually the best way to streamline the process.  Label as you go.
Cancel deliveries, newspaper / subscriptions, home services.
Schedule disconnect times about two weeks before your move day — you don’t want to have to pay for cable, phone and utilities when you aren’t even there!  Schedule connection dates at the same time.
Send out a mass email with your new contact info. and / or mail out moving announcements.
Pack a box of essential items that you will need immediately after the move and make sure it’s the last thing added to the truck.
